The rainy season is here with the cooler temperatures and humidity that comes with it. “Cuddle season” unfortunately also comes a host of infections, so here are some tips to keep you in tip top health.

  1. Get enough good sleep at night

Several studies claim that people who sleep less than seven hours a day are three times more prone to catching the flu. So go to bed earlier, reduce your exposure to screens and sleep well.

  1. Wash your hands regularly, with water and soap

Regular hand washing is the first step to prevent the spread of the many air and water borne germs we witness during this season.

  1. Drink a lot of liquids

Warm drinks like tea and nutrient-packed juices can help to prevent dehydration and reduce sore throat.

  1. Eat vegetables and fruits high in antioxidants

Eat a lot more vegetables like ugwu, waterleaf and spinach for a `stronger immune system.

  1. Stay away from people who are sick

Keep a distance from people who are sick. If you have to shake hands, wash your hands using warm water and soap afterwards.

  1. Clean your home

Do a thorough cleaning of your house, especially the door handles and furniture. If you can, wipe them down with bleach or disinfectants as well.

  1. Change your bed sheets and pillow cases

Change bed sheets and pillow cases regularly, especially when someone at home has got a cold. This is to prevent the spread of the virus.

  1. Keep working out

Daily moderate to vigorous workouts can help prevent infections by improving your fitness which can boost your immunity.

  1. Consume dairy & other foods rich in probiotics and vitamin D

Milk, cheese and yogurt contain linoleic acid and probiotics, which can help to protect the body from infections. Foods with vitamin D also help boost immunity.

  1. Take cover!

Just kidding. If you do catch a cold, please cover your mouth and nose with tissue paper or a handkerchief to help reduce the spread of the virus

  1. Stay warm and dry

When it is cold outside, please wear warm clothes to keep your body temperature up.  Remember to stay out of the rain too! You’re not that young anymore.
Live more life!
